Hidratación facial profunda: Clave para sobrevivir al calor

Deep facial hydration: Key to surviving the heat

Detailed analysis, written in Spanish, on the importance of deep facial hydration to survive high temperatures, differentiating between what the skin feels (heat, sweat) and what it really needs (water).

In summer, we fall into a sensory trap: as we sweat and notice our skin is more “moist” or shiny, we assume it is hydrated. Nothing closer to reality. The heat evaporates the water from the skin at a dizzying pace, and the conditioned air completes the fire.

Here I explain the science, the assets and the strategy to maintain the juicy skin (plump) when it was 40 degrees ago.

  1. Why does the heat dehydrate me if I'm sweating?

It is essential to understand the biology behind summer dehydration:

Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL): With heat, the skin barrier function becomes stressed. The water that resides in the deep layers (dermis) rises to the surface and evaporates quickly.

Sweat Engagement: Sweat is water and mineral salts that drain to cool the body. Does not moisturize the skin; On the contrary, when dry, the sales can irritate and dehydrate more.

Air conditioning: It is the silent enemy. It works by removing humidity from the environment. If the air is dry, it will “rob” the water from where it can run, including your skin, letting it drain and turn off (what we call “workshop skin”).

Vasodilation: The heat dilates the capillaries (turns them red). This increases the skin temperature and accelerates evaporation.

The result: A skin that shines with grease and sweat, but the touch feels rough, with marked lines of expression (dehydration wrinkles) and lack of elasticity.

  1. Hydration vs. Nutrition: The key shade

For the summer, your mantra should be: “My skin is dry, no hambre”.

Hydration (Water): Provides water to the cells. That's what you need in summer. Humectant ingredients that capture moisture.

Nutrition (Oil Oil/Lipids): Provides grease. That's what you need in winter or if your skin is very dry. In summer, excess nutrition can clog the pore and cause acne breakouts (due to sweat).

The Strategy: Seeks to add a lot of water (deep hydration) and seal it with a very light layer of lipids (so that it doesn't escape), without getting thick.

  1. Los “Four Jinetes” of Deep Hydration

Don't look for thick cremas. Look for these ingredients in serum format, essence or gel:

  1. Multimolecular Hyaluronic Acid (HA)

The indisputable king. But look, in summer you need an HA of different molecular weights:

High weight: If it falls on the surface, creating a film that prevents the water from evaporating. Gives this immediate “glow” effect.

Low weight: Penetrates the dermis to replenish water reserves from within.

  1. Glycerin

Sometimes ignored for being “cheap”, it is one of the most powerful humectants that exist. Attract water from the environment towards your skin. In summer it is essential.

  1. Panthenol (Vitamin B5)

Double function: deeply moisturizes and soothes skin irritated by the sun. It repairs the skin barrier.

  1. Polyglutamate (Polyglutamic Acid)

The new star. Retains up to 4 or 5 times more moisture than hyaluronic acid and creates a silky skin on the skin.

  1. “Light Covers” Hydration Protocol (Layering)

Instead of putting a “stick” of cream, use the Korean technique of thin layers. Penetrates better and does not agony with heat.

  1. La Mist (First drink): Just after cleaning your face, it doesn't last long. Apply a facial mist, thermal water or essence. Wet skin absorbs 30% assets better than dry skin.
  2. The Serum (Water injection): Apply your Hyaluronic Acid or Niacinamide serum. Massage until it is absorbed.
  3. El Sellado (The sorbete texture): Here is the summer key. Forgo the unctuous cream. Use Gel-Cream or Emulsion textures.

Key ingredient for sealing: Light ceramides or Escualano. They are lipids that do not weigh you down and prevent the serum water from evaporating.

  1. Moisturizing Sunscreen: Many modern sunscreens (aqueous phase) contain hyaluronic acid. If you have greasy skin, this could be your only final hydration step.

  1. Cabin Treatments: Injectable Hydration

If the creams are not enough, aesthetic medicine offers “real deep hydration”, that which topical cosmetics cannot achieve.

Skinboosters: Low density hyaluronic acid microinjections. It doesn't give volume (don't put on your pan face), it only captures water in the deep dermis. The effect is firm, elastic skin that lasts for months.

Mesotherapy with Vitamins: A cocktail of vitamins, amino acids and hyaluronic acid in the crosslink. Provides instant brightness, ideal for summer events.

  1. “In & Out” hydration (From the inside)

You can't hydrate a dried grape by painting it dry.

The water diet: In Spain we have the best edible moisturizer: Gazpacho (water + mineral salts + vitamins). Also sandy, melon and cucumber.

Electrolytes: If you sweat a lot during sports, drinking just water may not be enough. Add a salt or lemon pizza, or drink coconut water, to replace electrolytes and retain liquid.

 Survival Summary:

To survive the heat with good face:

  1. Use facial mists throughout the day (over makeup included).
  2. Swap your cream for a gel-cream.
  3. Use Hyaluronic Acid serum every morning and night.
  4. If you notice your skin is very dull, use a Skinbooster before vacation.

Good hydrated skin is skin that defends itself better in the sun and ages more slowly.
